  • Security & Tactical (Primary Manifest)

Merging the responsibilities of ship-to-ship and personnel combat into a single department, the security & tactical department is responsible for the tactical readiness of the vessel and the security of the ship.

  • Operations (Primary Manifest)

The operations department is responsible for keeping ship systems functioning properly, rerouting power, bypassing relays, and doing whatever else is necessary to keep the ship operating at peak efficiency.

    Show Positions

  • Engineering (Primary Manifest)

The engineering department has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything.

  • Science (Primary Manifest)

From sensor readings to figuring out a way to enter the strange spacial anomaly, the science department is responsible for recording data, testing new ideas out, and making discoveries.

    Show Positions

  • Medical & Counseling (Primary Manifest)

The medical & counseling department is responsible for the mental and physical health of the crew, from running annual physicals to combatting a strange plague that is afflicting the crew to helping a crew member deal with the loss of a loved one.

    Show Positions

  • Intelligence (Primary Manifest)

The Intelligence department is responsible for gathering and providing intelligence as it becomes possible during a mission; during covert missions, the intelligence department also takes a more active role, providing the necessary classified and other information.

    Show Positions

  • Diplomatic Detachment (Primary Manifest)

Responsible for representing the Federation and its interest, members of the Diplomatic Corps are members of the civilian branch of the Federation.

    Show Positions

  • Marine Detachment (Primary Manifest)

When the standard security detail is not enough, marines come in and clean up; the marine detachment is a powerful tactical addition to any ship, responsible for partaking in personal combat, from sniping to melee.

  • Artificial Intelligence System Division (Primary Manifest)

The Artificial Intelligence Division oversees all AI-related functions aboard the vessel, including holographic systems, quantum-learning cores, embedded support AIs, cybernetic integration, and SOPA-regulated neural-link interfaces. Each specialty operates as its own sub-department, led by an expert responsible for maintaining safety, readiness, and technical reliability within their field. Because these disciplines are too diverse for a single traditional chief position—and because SOPA must remain ethically independent—Starfleet uses a collaborative leadership model instead of a centralized command structure.

Coordination across the division is achieved through the AI Systems Roundtable, a standing council composed of all sub-department leads: the SOPA Liaison Officer, Holographics Lead, Quantum Core Supervisor, Embedded Systems Senior Officer, and Cybernetics Lead. To keep cooperation fair and balanced, the Roundtable uses a Rotating Chair system in which leadership duties shift between the sub-department heads at regular intervals. The Chair facilitates meetings, compiles shared priorities, and communicates outcomes to Command, but does not hold authority over other sub-departments.

This decentralized, scientific-style structure preserves each unit’s autonomy—especially SOPA’s independent ethical mandate—while ensuring strong communication, transparency, and fully integrated AI operations throughout the ship. The result is a flexible, interdisciplinary division capable of supporting the highly advanced technological environment of the 30th century. (In testing, NPC only positions for now)

    • ~ SOPA Liaison & Ethics Office

The SOPA Liaison & Ethics Office manages neural-link regulations, ethical oversight, and crew-AI interaction safeguards. The unit operates independently from technical AI departments, ensuring unbiased compliance with SOPA protocols. SOPA personnel participate in the AI Systems Roundtable but maintain final authority over ethical rulings and device regulations.

    • ~ Quantum AI Core Operations

Quantum AI Core Operations oversees the vessel’s central AI processing matrices, predictive modeling frameworks, and threat-analysis algorithms. Personnel maintain the quantum core’s stability and ensure that learning systems remain within authorized parameters.

    • ~ Holographic Systems & Adaptive Projections

This sub-department maintains all holographic systems aboard the vessel, including projection grids, interface walls, holodeck environments, and adaptive avatar frameworks. The Holographics Lead oversees daily operations and represents the team within the AI Systems Roundtable.

    • ~ Embedded & Support AI Services

This unit oversees the ship’s support-tier artificial intelligences, including diagnostic assistants, environmental regulators, medical triage AIs, and pilot-aid suites. The Embedded Systems senior officer coordinates routine updates and ensures cross-department compatibility within the Roundtable framework.

    • ~ Cybernetics & Bio-AI Integration Lab

Leading research and maintenance of cybernetic implants, neural interfaces, and bio-AI compatibility systems, this lab collaborates closely with Medical and Engineering. The Cybernetics Lead participates in the Roundtable to ensure integration across shipwide AI operations.

  • Civilian Affairs (Primary Manifest)

Civilians play an important role in Starfleet. Many civilian specialists across a number of fields work on occasion with Starfleet personnel as a Mission Specialist. In other cases, extra ship and station duties, such as running the ship's lounge, are outsourced to a civilian contract.
